In recent years, an increasing number of consumers have been overspending on non-essential items, leading to significant financial difficulties. This phenomenon is primarily driven by consumer culture and financial mismanagement. However, it can be mitigated through financial education as well as stricter regulations on lending and advertising.

One of the primary reasons people fall into debt is the influence of advertising and social pressure. Aggressive marketing campaigns create a sense of urgency, making consumers feel compelled to buy products to enhance their lifestyles. For instance, through extensive marketing campaigns, Apple cultivates the perception of superior innovation in its latest products, enticing users to upgrade their phones. Additionally, social media platforms often portray unrealistic living standards, encouraging impulsive spending in an attempt to keep up with the latest trends. For example, in Vietnam, there is a growing trend among young people to collect designer toys such as Labubu and Baby Three, which are often sold at exorbitant prices. Many enthusiasts are willing to spend millions of VND on these limited-edition figurines, even if it means using credit cards or borrowing money to afford them. Furthermore, a lack of financial illiteracy contributes to this problem. Without essential money management skills, individuals are more likely to rely on credit cards or loans to fund their purchases, ultimately leading to financial struggles.

To address this issue, financial education should be incorporated into school curricula. Teaching young people about budgeting, responsible spending, and the consequences of debt can help them make informed financial decisions in the future. Another effective measure is implementing stricter regulations on advertising and consumer credit. Authorities can impose limits on misleading advertisements that promote reckless spending, while banks must enforce transparent lending policies to ensure consumers understand the long-term risks of taking on debt.

In conclusion, unnecessary debt is driven by several factors, and it can be tackled by implementing those measures simultaneously.
